Join Us For Some Outdoor Fun!

We are a group of members and friends of FUS who enjoy socializing and being active outdoors. We strive to provide a comfortable environment for everyone—singles and families, young and old, fit or less fit, lesbian, gay, straight, bisexual, and transgender.

Our activities include bicycling, hiking, canoeing, or anything else people are interested in. Please join us. Bring your family and friends, or come alone. Not only are we looking for participants, but we are also looking for trip leaders and fresh ideas.

Sat. 10/17/09  Fall Fun: Apple Picking and Pumpkin Picking
Description:

Picking apples and choosing a pumpkin – the quintessential autumn activities. At Appleberry Farm, you can even take a hayride. No kids? No problem. Others will share, and we know you’re just a kid at heart anyway.

What to do with the extra apples you pick when you get carried away with enthusiasm? Join us in FUS’ fancy new kitchen after we return from the farm to make enough apple crisp for our volunteers to take with them and serve to 90 homeless men at the shelter that evening. Please RSVP to Wendy Cooper at wendyc@fusmadison.org if you will join us for the baking portion of the day. Expert assistance and cool apple-peeling equipment will be available.

Duration:

Approximately 2-3 ours (including travel), plus 2 hours at FUS to make the apple crisp (from ~1-3pm).

Meeting Place

Meet at FUS to carpool with others, or meet us around 10:30 a.m. at Appleberry Farm, 8079 Maurer Road, Cross Plains (head west on Mineral Point Road, past CTH M; turn left (south) on Timber Lane and Right onto Maurer. The farm is on your left).

Difficulty:

Some walking, but rides available out to the orchard and pumpkin patch.

When:

Sat. October 17, 2009, 10:00 AM

Leader:

Betsey Day (827-5934)

Misc:

Rest room facilities and snacks available. Harvested produce available for purchase, if you don’t want to pick your own. You will be asked to sign an accident/injury waiver before participating in this event.

Bring:

Cash for apples, cider, and/or pumpkins; shopping bags for your produce; camera or sketchpad
